Structural Risk Assessment Programme for a Global Beverage Producer
Gatehouse has been supporting a Global Beverage Producer in identifying, assessing and mitigating contextual risks in a variety of operating markets for a number of years.
Applying its ‘Dependency’ methodology, Gatehouse works closely with the company’s management board as well as in-market teams to establish the factors of highest sensitivity/reliance for the business. Gatehouse advisory teams then help interpret the impact of geopolitical developments/local issues on business outcomes. Finally, senior Gatehouse consultants help to develop geostrategic recommendations, allowing the business to manage/mitigate harmful outcomes, as well as red flag issues to track.
For example, our assessment of the client’s operations in Brazil revealed that the business was highly reliant on a predictable tax and regulatory environment, but had failed to liaise with relevant industry bodies and government officials on an upcoming beverage tax and restrictions on product advertising, which threatened businesses sales and profits. The shock highlighted that the business was severely under-represented in Brasilia. Gatehouse connected the client to in-market specialists, including experienced Public Affairs professionals in Brasilia, to help address the deficiency. A response was developed, incorporating structural business changes and recommendations to mitigate additional contextual risks.
Given the success of the approach, the client has asked Gatehouse to develop a comprehensive training and scenario planning programme based on the Gatehouse Dependencies Model. Staff are trained to assess contextual risk exposures and provide mitigation/management strategies.
