Our clients require insight into geopolitical or economic risks/opportunities. Gatehouse focuses its support on the geopolitical factors that affect specific outcomes – in essence discerning the “geopolitical risk premium” for investment or operational returns.
Gatehouse works closely with them on either a long term or project-specific basis to understand every aspect of the issues and stakes involved. We then coordinate face to face forums with our clients and members of our contributor network chosen for their expertise of the exact issue, risk or opportunity. This allows our clients to test their assumptions in a confidential and intimate setting against those ‘in the know’.
Our wealth of geopolitical experience and unique methodology for assessing risks and opportunities assists decision makers with the global challenges they face.
The Gatehouse Approach
The Gatehouse approach builds on the reality that (unlike 10-15 years ago) access to information is no longer the limiting factor in assessing contextual risk. In fact, the proliferation of information is often overwhelming. With limited bandwidth, attention must be focused on the most relevant factors, not the loudest issues. Before Gatehouse provides any input or judgment, we ensure that we fully understand the desired outcomes, and how any support will improve performance.
Gatehouse’s structured process starts with an analysis of a client’s investment/operational sensitivities (dependencies), existing internal analysis, and current geostrategic assumptions (underpinning decision-making). This ensures that any Gatehouse judgment is focused on specific outcomes. To ensure access to the most relevant perspectives, Gatehouse calls on its contributor network (of 1000+ geopolitical experts) to provide substantiated insight, interpretation and judgment.
Gatehouse is not an ‘expert network’ per se. We know our contributors personally, and interact with each of them to understand the nature/provenance of their experience, as well as current activity (maintaining their relevance). We carefully blend expert perspectives to restrict cognitive bias, and to provide input on strategic choices.
The network can also be used as a ‘wisdom of crowds’ style engine – allowing our clients to quickly test market assumptions against a broad selection of expert perspectives.
In addition to our geopolitical risk advisory work, we help our clients’ businesses to thrive by working with their in-country management teams to develop resilient stakeholder networks at all levels. To this end, our board leverages its extensive diplomatic experience to prepare robust, pragmatic plans and training programmes.
